Annual Report 2024: The Year in Review

The Land of Hope Annual Report for 2024 is out.

Every year, we detail the activities we’ve carried out in our fight against the deadly superstitions that claim the lives of over 10,000 children annually in Nigeria. The report gives you a glimpse into our work and the results we’ve achieved with the contributions we receive.

Looking back on a year where, among other things:

Hope and Israel were rescued. Hope was just about a year old, accused of witchcraft and left to die in the bush. We found Israel lying on a very busy road as we were driving back from a local visit. He is 9 years old and bears many physical scars from a childhood filled with violence and torture. These are some of the worst cases we’ve encountered. Both children now live at Land of Hope under our care.

Our reintegration work has progressed, and several of our children have now reestablished contact with their families in the villages and developed positive relations with them. It’s important for the children to have ties to parents, siblings, and other relatives, but it’s also crucial in fighting superstition, as their families can see that they are doing well and are not possessed by demons or witchcraft.

We intensified our awareness work, hitting mainstream media with a new documentary on Max (formerly HBO Max) released in over 60 countries, and hit the streets in Nigeria with educational materials and continued our information sessions in the villages in close cooperation with their chiefs.

We invested in sustainability through Land of Hope’s self-sufficiency, and these investments have been a lifesaver during Nigeria’s ongoing economic crisis, where we are experiencing severe inflation in prices of basic food items. In 2024, we also established a hydroponic system.

We’ve also invested in Land of Hope’s digital future by setting up a stronger donation setup so we can receive donations through multiple payment methods internationally. Additionally, we launched our own webshop for our Hope collections, which helps strengthen the community around Land of Hope.

The economic crisis in Nigeria has pushed 129 million people into poverty. We try to support the local community as much as we can. In 2024, with contributions from our supporters, we distributed rice to over 300 poor families, especially widows with children who are at great risk of being ostracized and accused of witchcraft. We are also helping two young widows with baby formula for their babies, who were close to dying of starvation.

Thank you for supporting our work and for continuing to support our joint fight against the superstition that kills thousands of innocent children each year. We’ve come a long way, and we won’t stop until we’ve won.
