What began as a Mother’s Day gift has now become life-changing support for women living in poverty in Nigeria.

In May 2026, Land of Hope launched the Mother’s Pack as a Mother’s Day gift certificate. Within just a few weeks, supporters purchased Mother’s Packs worth several thousand euros through our online shop.

Now, that support has reached the women it was intended for.

Land of Hope’s local team is currently delivering Mother’s Packs to vulnerable women in the villages surrounding our children’s centre. Each pack contains a bag of rice, tomatoes, beans, and malaria medicine – basic necessities that can make a world of difference for families living in extreme poverty.

Emergency relief that reaches those who need it most

The distributions are taking place during Nigeria’s rainy season, when heavy rainfall has left many roads almost impossible to pass. In several areas, our team has had to navigate deep mud and flooded roads to reach the villages.

But the help is getting through.

As you can see in the photos, many of the women welcome the support with tears and long, heartfelt hugs. For them, the contents of a Mother’s Pack represent far more than food and medicine. They offer relief from the daily struggle to provide even the most basic necessities for their families.

Helping a mother means helping an entire family

Although Land of Hope’s primary mission is to protect children accused of witchcraft, our work does not stop there.

Every child at Land of Hope comes from a family living in poverty. Many still have brothers and sisters in their home villages, and in most cases, their mother is left to care for the family on her own.

When a mother cannot afford food or medicine, the whole family suffers. Supporting mothers is therefore also a way of protecting children.

Women in these rural communities often live without education, financial security, or legal protection. They are among the most vulnerable members of society, especially if they become widowed or are left to raise children alone.

The Mother’s Pack provides more than emergency relief. It offers stability, hope, and the opportunity for families to regain their footing.
